What Services Do You Provide?

We provide a holistic service to support you whatever stage you are at in your cancer journey.

Practical Supports: Our team will assist you with the practical aspects of a cancer diagnosis. We will give you guidance on how and where you can get support for issues including managing side effects, seeking financial support, and arranging travel to and from treatment. 

Managing Thoughts & Emotions: The emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis can often be overlooked, but can be as significant as the physical impact. We will help you manage the psychological and emotional distress you may be experiencing on a one-to-one or group basis, with a helpline, counselling, support groups, art therapy, and more. 

If you are a loved one of someone who has cancer or if you have lost someone to cancer, we also have support services for you. For example, our bereavement support service will work with you to support you through the grieving process.

Education & Information: A cancer diagnosis can come with a lot of unknowns and a feeling of lack of control. Being more informed about your diagnosis and the resources available to you can help you feel more in control of your situation. We also run workshops and seminars to give you practical information on diet in cancer, oncology workshops for healthcare professionals, and support tailored to specific types of cancer and their symptoms. 

Survivorship: For many people, it can be difficult to adjust to the ‘new normal’ after cancer. At Cork ARC Cancer Support House, we are here to help you adapt to life after cancer.

If you are a cancer patient or someone close to you has cancer, we are here to offer you specialist professional support. If you’re still unsure about whether our services are right for you, feel free to get in touch to discuss your needs.

Where are you located?

We have two locations: one on Sarsfield Road in Wilton, and the Bungalow in Bantry. If you’re based in West Cork, you can avail of the Cancer Connect transport service to bring you to your appointments at The Bungalow in Bantry.

You are welcome to come see us in person at whichever location suits you, or you can call or email.

What happens when I get in touch with Cork ARC Cancer Support House?

From the moment you contact us, you will be treated with compassion, understanding and given a safe space to voice your fears and concerns. If you come to visit us in person at our Sarsfield Road or Bantry location, you’ll be greeted by a member of our Nurse Coordinator Team, and welcomed into a comfortable environment.

We will listen and support you in dealing with the changes you are experiencing in your life, and provide an opportunity for you to speak and share the feelings and experiences you are going through. Once we have an understanding of your needs, we’ll explore with you the services that are best suited to you.

Hormone Therapy treatment is prescribed to breast cancer patients (whose tumours are hormone sensitive) for up to ten years, and can cause a range of side effects. With patients typically taking this treatment at home, these side effects can be exacerbated by the loneliness and isolation associated with Covid restrictions over an extended period.
